Grow Professionally

For TSID (July 14, 2021)

(Title) Think Tank Tuesdays

Irene Robles has teamed up with Bonnie Faye in a collaborative series for both Deaf and hearing interpreters. Our vision for Think Tank Tuesday is to provide a proactive space for open dialogue with Deaf professionals about interpreting practices and trust-building with the Deaf community. The focus of these discussions is learning to build rapport, allowing inquiry, and taking time to reflect. A willingness to check in allows for self-reflection which is crucial to our professional growth. We invite you to come back together on the fourth Tuesday of each month for a free follow-up discussion with fellow interpreters and the Deaf Community.
Join us as we share insights.

Irene Robles started teaching in 2012. She started teaching at Mt. SAC in 2016. In 2020, Mt. SAC added the DI Preparation to interpreting and Irene is the BEST instructor for the course.

Irene is a Wonder Woman for the Deaf Community, always listening to the Deaf Concerns. Irene cares for the DEAF individual in how they approach Professionalism and Best Business Practices.

AS a professor, Irene has combined DEAF HEART Ethics and professional practices, she has made imprint on our community. She has proven trustworthy and given sage advice to both the Deaf and Hearing interpreters.

In 2020 Irene and Bonnie Faye started working together

Bonnie Faye has been interpreting for 45 years; presenting and mentoring for 35 years. Her experience ranges from 1975 to the present, working in Medical, Mental Health, VRS and Community work. In 1995 Bonnie Faye started training with Carla Mathers for legal interpreting and trained with several legal mentors. In 1997 she launched her own business, Pula Legal Interpreting Network. Since 2015 she has been working as a Trial Team Interpreter for the Deaf Prosecutor in Santa Ana, CA. Bonnie Faye believes we retain learning from small chunks of information at a time, thus Think Tank Tuesday was developed. Learning from the Deaf Community is vital as the Deaf have insights to share with the interpreting community. Come join us.

The Goal of Think Tank Tuesdays is to promote discovery and disseminate knowledge, to expand opportunities for attendees, and to educate the next generation of professional ASL Interpreters. Each Think Tank Tuesday therefore strives to foster an environment that is inclusive, giving an equal opportunity to learn and explore differences, as well as commonalities. Varying viewpoints are encouraged and celebrated.

Acts of hatred and other intolerant conduct, as well as acts of discrimination that demean our differences, are antithetical to the values of Think Tank Tuesdays and serve to undermine its purpose.
