Desiree Cartmell is a Deaf professional you don’t want to miss!
Desiree Cartmell wears many hats as she shifts daily from working with youth to college students to being an active volunteer within the Deaf community. She works full-time at CSDR Middle School (California School for the Deaf, Riverside) and is a mentor with the Interpreter Training Program at Mount San Antonio College (Walnut, CA).
You will often find her discussing ASL culture, ethics, and the role of interpreters. She also enjoys analyzing ASL style varieties and studying linguistic factors (handshape choices) and language variation.
In addition to ten years in the educational field, Desiree shows her teacher’s heart as a Pilates instructor for both Deaf and hearing clients, allowing clients to fully engage in their Pilates practice through visual language and gesture-based instruction.
Known for being a laid-back, yet energetic and passionate individual – always hungry for new knowledge, Desiree enjoys spending time with family and friends and maintaining a simple and balanced approach to life.
