Think Tank Tuesdays provide space to take in and reflect on the Deaf professional’s experiences, their journey and views on collaboration, rapport and trust.

These unique Deaf perspectives open the door for interpreters to check in… fueling the 4th Tuesday’s interactive discussion!

Rachel Barister is a Deaf professional you don’t want to miss!

Rachel Barister came to America, enrolling at Gallaudet (College) in September 1967 with the goal to become a teacher. She brought with her an honours degree in British History from Queen Mary College (University of London) and set about acquiring a degree in Liberal Arts…and learning about the American Way!

After obtaining her Masters in Language and Linguistics, Rachel moved to Virginia where she taught high school English at Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind (VSDB) for over 2 decades. In 1998, she became Principal of the Department for the Deaf, eventually retiring from VSDB after 35 years of service.

From kindergarten to university level, Rachel has taught at Gallaudet, Old Dominion University, James Madison University, as well as Blue Ridge and Danville Community Colleges.

With teaching comes learning, so one may say Rachel is a perpetual student and proud of it!
